Static vs Dynamic IP: Permanent or Rotating?
Have you always heard people mention "static IP" and "dynamic IP" when you are engaged in cross-border e-commerce, overseas social media, or just want to watch a TV series in peace? Feeling foggy?
Don’t worry, today I will use the simplest vernacular and metaphors to help you fully understand the difference between the two in 3 minutes, and know which one you should choose!
- Core metaphor: fixed address vs shared hotel
Imagine that your online identity requires an "address" to access the Internet.
Static IP: Just like a house you buy or rent for a long time.
The address is permanently fixed: Your friends (such as Amazon and TikTok platforms) know where to find you at any time, and they have a full sense of trust.
Single-family house: Only you and your family live there, so you have good privacy and stability.
Suitable for: businesses that require long-term stable identity (opening a store, operating an account), and requiring remote access (accessing company servers, home NAS). Dynamic IP: It's like you are in a different room under the same hotel group every time.
The address changes frequently: every time you check out, you will be assigned a different room number the next time you come back. The platform will think you are missing.
Shared by multiple people: If you check out this room and stay with someone else, the hotel (ISP) can’t remember what the previous resident did.
Suitable for: ordinary families surfing the Internet, watching videos, and temporarily browsing the web.
In one sentence: Static IP is your "fixed address" in the online world, while dynamic IP is your "temporary hotel room". 2. How should you choose? Look at the scene!
Scenarios where it is strongly recommended to use [static IP]:
- Cross-border e-commerce (such as Amazon, Shopee):
Why? The platform’s risk control system is very strict. If you use a static IP to log in to the store, the platform will consider it a trusted and fixed local merchant. If you keep changing IP (using dynamic IP), the platform will think that the account is abnormal and trigger secondary verification or even ban the account!
For example: If your physical store changes location every day, how can the Industrial and Commercial Bureau and customers trust you? 2. Overseas social media multi-account operation (such as TikTok, Facebook, Instagram):
